Over the years of drawing window cleaning cartoons I have always been asked to do cartoon caricatures or charters of fellow window cleaners. Today I want to share with you some of the great sports that have let me do my best to immortalize them is a cartoons.
Let start with a window cleaner Norm Winton Atlas Building Maintenance Vancouver, WA. I never met Norm in person, we’ve know each other 2000 on one the big there Window Cleaning Forums back then. From the “chat room” and “Message board” technology sprung up the free Yahoo Groups forum. As a window cleaner online networking was new and interesting territory.
Norm was the god sent to one of the forums. He’s what we call lovingly in the industry as an “Old Timer”. Although it does not necessary mean his age but more of his experience and know-how in the window cleaning industry.
When I started drawing the cartoons he was one of my supporters and always understood the reason why I did the cartoons. He know the value of humor, especially in the mundane of window washing.
Norm would always let me know what he thought of the cartoons… Even if he did not always get them.
Hey Chato,That’s another great cartoon. Good work, or play, or whatever.
Norm Winton Sr.
One of his first favorites cartoons I did was about Water Fed Poles. It was his idea, and the joke was about of a guy using a waterfed pole and the caption says “10 minutes ago I couldn’t even spell window cleaner, now I ‘R’ one.” I drew this was when I was just starting out drawing and really did not have much skill but back then I just did my best.
Over the year I did Norm a few more cartoons.
This cartoon I dedicated to Norm in March 2007 I called it window cleaning Wet Rock and Dry squirrel Method.
Norm was the kind of window cleaner that told it how is, and was happy to help other getting into the industry. For years he offered help to assitance to many window cleaners on the Windows cleaning forum. Even when there was only a few active members you could always count on Norm to post. He would post news stories about the industry and chat with guys about the industry. His last post was on June 10, 2008, Sadly not long after in September 22, 2008 his squeegee and window cleaning advocacy voice went silent.
Life is a comedy filled with up’s and down but to be able to laugh at our selves defines our humanity.
My mission and goal for drawing the Window Cleaning Cartoons has always been very simple. To bring a little humor to our mundane world of window cleaning. Really after cleaning hundreds of thousands of window panes over and over again we all need something to break up the day.
On January 16, 2007 at the dawn of the YouTube age, I did this video goof below. It’s me showing off how I come up with my great ideas for the window cleaning cartoons and clip art. It’s my Video Gag, step by step video on how I draw the window cleaning cartoons. O.k., maybe it’s not real, but it is real funny. In the back ground you can hear George Formby singing “When I’m cleaning windows” on an ukulele. Towards the end one of my girls gets in on the fun questioning what I was doing. It’s a fun vid, and I hope it give you a little giggle or laugh or smile. To date it’s been viewed 1,776! That mean window cleaners around the world have wasted 76.36 hours watching this stupid video… Feel free to add to that number and see the vid today.

A few weeks ago Vic form Painfully Clear Window Cleaning asked if I could try and design him a logo.
I don’t normally do that since my talent and skill level isn’t as good as a Professional Logo Graphic designer… I’m just an cartoonist at best. Still, I told him I would give it a shot.
So he e-mailed me what he wanted, “I want a logo with a bird sitting on his duff like he just ran into a window. Maybe some stars around his head. Possibly like the old Heckle and Jeckle characters.”
I did a little search to to get an idea of what the Heckle and Jeckle characters look like. Yes, I remember watching the cartoon as a boy but I still wanted a reference. Next I now have to interpret what it would look like hitting a window at the same time making sure i don’t totally plagiarize the art work. Well, the weeks window cleaning cartoon is what I came up with.
I thought it came out good… but Vic told me “That’s not quite it”, but he is going to run with it anyway. Thanks Vic I’m glad he can use it.
Do you want me to try and draw something for you? Let me know, I don’t charge a fee but I do ask you to make a donation to my not-for-profit Mental Health Humor Project. Also giving me a backlink is nice too. Leave me a comment and I contact you.
